摘要: Abstract The role of relative sea-level rise as a cause for the rapid erosion Louisiana's barrier island coast is investigated through numerical implementation modified Bruun rule that accounts low percentage sand-sized sediment in eroding Louisiana shoreface. Shore-normal profiles from 150 km coastline west Mississippi delta are derived bathymetric surveys conducted during 1880s, 1930s and 1980s. An RMS difference criterion employed to test whether an equilibrium profile form maintained between survey years. Only about half studied meet criterion; this represents significant limitation on potential applicability rule. meeting criterion, along with measured rates rise, used hindcast shoreline retreat at 37 locations within study area. Modeled observed show no correlation. Thus, terms approach, has power hindcasting (and presumably forecasting) coastal islands.
