摘要: Was it coincidence that the modern state and science arose at same time? This overview of relations from Scientific Revolution to World War II explores this issue, synthesising a range approaches history political theory. John Gascoigne argues case for an ongoing mutual dependence in ways which have promoted consolidation both. Drawing on wide body scholarship, he shows how changing functions brought wider engagement with science, while possibilities make available increased authority along its prowess war. At end II, alliance between was securely established and, argues, is still firmly embodied post-war world.
