摘要: Abstract Conservation actions are critical to mitigating the growing number of threatened species worldwide. Previous studies show a consistent increase in one highly targeted type conservation action: translocation (i.e. movement for purposes). Will this trend continue? To gain insights into effectiveness and future trends, we examined past proposed uses recovery efforts Canada, where assessed by Committee on Status Endangered Wildlife Canada given legal protection plans under Species at Risk Act (SARA). Our review 541 SARA-listed indicates 55 have already been translocated, 49 recommended translocation, 99 consideration, suggesting least doubling translocations. Overall, was relevant 38% species. need overwhelmingly belong vascular plants, but relatively few plants translocated date, capacity expertise plant propagation transplantation will be important. listed as SARA were most commonly translocations relative other could not due insufficient detail Federal documents. finding that projected substantially begs question whether such trends also occur countries, alignment between need, policy direction, scientific planning financial commitments sufficient meet demand.
