摘要: Abstract Soft X-ray Mg 2p photoemission using synchrotron radiation at moderate spectral resolution has been used to investigate the early stages of oxidation Mg(0001) with and without preadsorbed Na or K. On alkali-free surface, some evidence is found for a state characterized by chemical shift intermediate between that metallic oxidic states, but limited overlapping spin-orbit split surface bulk components precludes more thorough characterization. Preadsorbed K enhance initial rate approximately factor two. It suggested mechanism an enhancement oxygen dissociation.
