摘要: Although glutamate and aspartate are among the most likely compounds to function as central neurotransmitters, both can produce cell death in neonatal animals, efficient uptake systems for these amino acids mean that exceptionally high concentrations required toxicity adults. A better candidate an endogenous neurotoxin is quinolinic acid, which produces via activation of N-methyl-aspartate receptors. Several differences detail between activity quinolinate may indicate existence subpopulations receptor. Another compound same 'kynurenine' pathway quinolinate, kynurenic antagonist excitatory neurotoxic actions overall excitability nervous system occurrence therefore result from a balance kynurenate.
