摘要: The past four years have been an exciting period in the history of parkinsonian research. Thanks to efforts extraordinary number investigators who entered field and a close interaction among neurologists, pharmacologists, biochemists, cell biologists, chemists, we progressed short time span from first report that MPTP causes neurological symptoms those seen Parkinsonism patients understanding main events leading nigrostriatal death initiated by MPTP. One purpose this paper is summarize biochemical involved process, emphasizing recent, largely unpublished data pointing out unresolved questions. Our second aim give overview what being done provide evidence for hypothesis, which gaining increasing acceptance, idiopathic caused slow-acting environmental neurotoxins. We will point battery relatively simple vitro tests screening such potential neurotoxins how they may eventually facilitate elimination disease. original studies be summarized represent, part, collaboration with our colleagues, A. Trevor N. Castagnoli at University Dr. R. Heikkila’s laboratory.
