摘要: The disease known as Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (PCP) is a major cause of illness and death in persons with impaired immune systems. While the genus has been to science for nearly century, understanding its members remained rudimentary until DNA analysis showed extensive diversity. organisms from different host species have very sequences, indicating multiple species. In recognition genetic functional distinctness, organism that causes human PCP now named jiroveci Frenkel 1999. Changing organism's name does not preclude use acronym because it can be read "Pneumocystis pneumonia." sequence variation exists among samples P. jiroveci, feature allows reexamination relationships between pathogen. Instead lifelong latency, transient colonization may rule.
