摘要: BACKGROUND Facial appearance is important for normal psychosocial development in children with cleft lip and palate (CLP). There conflicting evidence on how deficient maxillary growth may affect nasolabial esthetics. METHODS We retrospectively investigated two groups, the Langenback (35 children; mean age 11.1 years; range: 7.9-13.6) Vomerplasty (58 10.8 7.8-14), who received unilateral CLP surgery by same surgeon. The hard repair technique differed between groups. In group, palatal bone non-cleft side only was left denuded, inducing scar formation inhibiting growth. a vomerplasty tight closure of soft tissues applied. Thirteen lay judges rated esthetics photographs using modified Asher-McDade's index. RESULTS Nasolabial both groups comparable (p > 0.1 each component). Inferior view judged as least esthetic component demonstrated scores 3.18 (SD = 0.63) 3.13 0.47) respectively. Mean other components were from 2.52 to 2.81 0.62). Regression analysis showed that related slight improvement nasal profile (coefficient B -0.287; p 0.043; R(2 ) 0.096). CONCLUSIONS This study demonstrates use instead Langenbeck weakly associated among pre-adolescent patients UCLP.
