摘要: Management of data collected during projects that involve large numbers scientists is an often overlooked aspect the experimental plan. Ecosystem science like Oregon Transect Research (OTTER) Project many investigators from institutions and run for multiple years, collect archive amounts data. These range in size a few kilobytes information such measurements as canopy chemistry meteorological variables, to hundreds megabytes items views multi-band spectrometers flown on aircraft scenes imaging radiometers aboard satellites. Organizing storing OTTER Project, certifying those data, correcting errors sets, validating distributing other major undertaking. Using National Aeronautics Space Administration's (NASA) Pilot Land Data System (PLDS), Support mechanism was established which accomplished all above. At onset interaction between PLDS OTTER, it not certain could accomplish these tasks manner would aid researchers Project. This paper documents types were under auspices procedures implemented store, catalog, validate, certify The issues compliance with data-management requirements, use certification, ease retrieving are discussed. We advance hypothesis formal management necessary ecological investigations involving using gathering instruments procedures. experience gained this exercise give indication needs systems must be addressed coming decades when data-gathering endeavors undertaken by community.
