摘要: Melastoma malabathricum L. Smith is a small shrub that belongs to the Melastomaceae family. Due toits high medicinal values,M. has gained herb status among Malaysian communities. The present study aimed determine potential hepatoprotective activity of aqueous extract M.malabathricum leaves (AEMM) using rats models. Rats were divided into ten groups (n = 6)and received distilled water (dH2O) (negative control), 200 mg/kg silymarin (positive control) or AEMM (50,250 and 500 mg/kg) orally once daily for 7 days on 8th day subjected hepatotoxicinduction either carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) paracetamol (PCM). The blood liver sampleswere collected biochemical microscopical analysis. Results indicated theAEMM treated only at dose mg/kg, exhibited significant (p <0.05) activityagainst CCl 4- PCM-induced toxicity model. These claimed are supported by abilityto: i) reduce plasma levels aspartate aminotransferase (AST) alanine (ALT),two enzymes increased in untreated hepatotoxic ii) histologicalscoring. parameters findings histological observations. M.malabathricum exert activity, which could be attributed its previouslyreported free radicals scavenging antioxidant activities flavonoids content. Thus, in-depthstudies regarding required.
