摘要: • To determine objectively the patient and physician factors that lead to breast cancer malpractice litigation, a review was undertaken of all cases tried in US federal state civil court system over 20-year period from 1971 through 1990. Forty-five were identified involved delayed diagnosis (the mean delay 15 months). The patients young (mean age, 40 years). Of 45 studied, majority (37 [82%]) found painless mass by self-examination breast. Only 22 (49%) had further workup, mostly mammography (20 [44%]). results 16 mammograms (80%) read as normal. Obstetricians gynecologists greatest number (21 [50%]), followed family practitioners internists (17 [41%]), general surgeons (12 [28%]), radiologists (4 [10%]). (Arch Surg. 1992;127:542-547)
