摘要: Chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection affects approximately 375 million people worldwide. Current antiviral treatment effectively controls, but rarely clears chronic HBV infection. In addition, a significant portion of infected patients are not suitable for currently available therapy, and still face higher risk cirrhosis hepatocellular carcinoma. The poorly understood pathogenesis is the main barrier developing more effective strategies. has long been viewed as non-cytopathic central hypothesis lies in belief that host specific immunity-mediated liver disease. However, this view challenged by accumulating experimental clinical data support model cytopathic replication. article we systematically review pathogenic role replication suggest possible related mechanisms HBV-mediated injury. We propose full understanding should consider following elements. I. Liver injury can be caused high levels accumulation viral products hepatocytes. II. either directly cytopathic, non-cytopathic, or mix both an individual patient depending upon usually associated with activity
