The development of work self-efficacy in people with disabilities

摘要: The development of work self-efficacy in people with life-long physical disabilities was investigated using qualitative methods. A series three semi-structured interviews were conducted a purposive sample participants between the ages 23 and 44. Research included two males cerebral palsy female rheumatoid arthritis. Developmental comparisons made that grew up expecting to go as adults one participant who did not. All working at time interviews. Each focused on separate topic: (1) childhood developmental events contributed their becoming adult workers, (2) how these self-efficacy, (3) they described self-efficacy. Qualitative analysis interview data guided by Bandura’s (1997) social cognitive theory Lent Brown’s (1996) career theory. Results indicate mastery experiences performing household chores, vicarious learning acquired having parents role models, verbal persuasion form parental encouragement teacher support all positively participants’ sense most common inhibitors overprotection, negative school related being placed special education, poor models for working. How cognitively processed also played development, each actively resisting inhibiting readily accepting positive events. model is proposed
