摘要: Introduction: Modern-day lifestyles are characterized by large amounts of prolonged sedentary activities, which may pose a risk to health in its own right, although little is known about their effects on mental health. We examined the association between several types common behaviors (TV viewing, Internet use, reading) and different aspects Methods: conducted 2-yr follow-up 6359 (age 64.9 ± 9.1 yr) men women from English Longitudinal Study Ageing, cohort community-dwelling older adults. Self-reported TV viewing time, reading, use was assessed at baseline. Mental using eight-item Centre Epidemiological Studies Depression scale measure depressive symptoms neuropsychological tests memory verbal fluency assess cognitive function. Results: At baseline, time (≥6 vs. <2 h·d) associated with higher (coefficient = 0.49, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.63 0.35) poorer global function =-1.16, CI =-1.00 to-1.31). Conversely, participants reported lower =-0.58, =-0.50 to-0.66) 1.27, 1.37 1.18). There no any baseline change measures over follow-up, suggesting that difference scores persisted but did not increase time. Conclusions: Some, all behaviors, linked adverse It likely these associations being driven contrasting environmental social contexts they occur. © 2014 American College Sports Medicine.
