摘要: When root tips of fully aerobic, intact maize (Zea mays L.) seedlings are made anaerobic, viability normally is only 24 hours or less at 25°C. We find that can be extended to least 96 if given a hypoxic pretreatment for 18 by sparging the solution with 4% O2 in nitrogen (v/v) before anoxia. Fully aerobic (sparged 40% O2) had very low alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) activity (per gram fresh weight), and level remained under In hypoxically pretreated roots, however, high levels ADH were induced, rose further during initial anoxia, then about 20 times controls O2. roots sparged air (21% was three Improved associated maintenance energy metabolism (ATP concentration, total adenylates, adenylate charge). Roots not lost 94% adenylates ATP The relation between induced activity, metabolism, improved anoxia-tolerance acclimated discussed.
