Female Responses to Synthetic Pheromone and Plant Compounds in Agriotes brevis Candeze (Coleoptera: Elateridae)

摘要: Traps baited with synthetic pheromone components of Agriotes brevis [geranyl butanoate + (E,E)-farnesyl butanoate] captured significantly higher numbers not only male, but also female beetles, compared to unbaited controls. Catches both sexes showed a clear positive relationship increasing doses. In electroantennogram tests, antennal responses females and males number known components, identified from glands, similar trend, geranyl eliciting the strongest responses. This suggests that male A. antennae are respect perception compounds, beetles have sensory capabilities perceive which they produce. Addition plant-derived compounds (Z)-3-hexenyl acetate, methyl benzoate, (Z)-3-hexenol salicylate (identified earlier foliage as attractive for brevis) increased catches. All above results suggest constituents an aggregation brevis, in contrast general view click beetle pheromones being “classical” sex pheromones.
