National health research systems in Latin America: a 14-country review*

摘要: This article discusses the main features of national health research systems (NHRS) Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela, based on documents prepared by their country experts who participated in First Latin American Conference Research Innovation for Health held April 2008, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The review also includes sources cited reports, published scientific papers, expert opinion, as well regional secondary sources. Six countries reported having formal entities governance management: Brazil Rica's are led ministries health; while Venezuela have shared science technology. Ecuador each a comprehensive policy devoted specifically to science, technology, innovation. established priorities. In conclusion, encouraging progress has been made, despite structural functional heterogeneity study countries' NHRS disparate levels development. Instituting good governance/management is utmost importance how efficiently health, other government players, society-at-large can tackle research.
