Proactive pre-conception counselling for women with epilepsy—is it effective?

摘要: Abstract We describe the development of a proactive pre-conception counselling service for women with epilepsy based on complete re-investigation woman's epilepsy, policy withdrawing antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) thought to carry an increased risk foetal abnormality (and substitution, where indicated, AEDs lesser risk) and exhibition folic acid 5 mg daily plus fulfilment educational needs exploration her partner's wishes. The outcome assessment 90 such is compared 59 presenting our already pregnant. An audit outcomes in two groups suggests that pre-conceptually worthwhile (some turn out not have or cerebral lesions best managed before pregnancy) morbidity may be reduced by judicious rationalization medication: taken conception also protective foetus. Proactive counselling, however, only works if woman prepared wait (sometimes up year) necessary drug changes instituted using reliable contraception.
