摘要: Abstract Surface self diffusion constants Ds for nickel, heated in vacuo at temperatures between 800°C and 1200°C, were calculated from interferometric measurements on the rate of smoothing scratches. was found to depend strongly surface orientation, effect being greatest lower temperatures. This is ascribed largely orientation dependent impurity adsorption. The formation flats exact (111) (100) orientations observed indicating much higher values these planes. Impurity adsorption be least surfaces near (111). variation constant with temperature oriented within 25° given by = Do exp ( −Q KT ) D0 5(± 3) × 10−4cm2/sec Q 0.62 (± 0.08) eV.
