摘要: Abstract Study Objective The aim of this study was to examine the characteristics and outcomes patients seeking treatment for abuse supplemental caffeine. Methods This a 3-year analysis conducted all consecutive cases involving caffeine in 10 years older reported regional poison center. Excluded were suicide attempts, therapeutic errors, only coffee or tea product. Results Two hundred fifty-four met inclusion criteria. Mean age 20.5 years, 50% women. Caffeine form nondietary medication 201 cases, dietary supplement 35 caffeine-enhanced beverage cases. abused alone 174 (68%), with alcohol 7, illegal drugs 6 other pharmaceutical products 81 (29%) Thirty-four (13% total) hospitalized medical complications from Only concomitant associated hospitalization (odds ratio, 3.8; 95% CI, 1.8-8.8; P = .0004). Conclusion In cohort, primarily by young adults. Concomitant recreational pharmaceuticals warrants further investigation.
