摘要: The relationship between cloud height and lightning activity is examined using data from the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) satellite. Coincident precipitation radar (PR) Lightning Imaging Sensor aboard TRMM satellite are used to examine whether flash rate proportional fifth power of top height. This study unique in that (1) instantaneous rather than maximum storm obtained (2) relatively unbiased full sets for different locations seasons over globe used. thunderstorm nonlinear with large variance. overall trend shows increases exponentially Some tall thunderstorms do not have rates, but reverse situation never occurs. dependency derived scaling laws inconsistent with, necessarily required by, observed data.
