摘要: Although Hemoccult (Smith Kline Diagnostics, Inc., Sunnyvale, Calif.) screening for colorectal cancer is based on detection of the peroxidase activity blood, little known about relationship between patterns bleeding from cancers or adenomas and sensitivity test slides. 51Cr-labeled blood loss was measured a mean 9.1 days in 46 patients with 28 adenomas. Duplicate sets II slides were prepared by mailed testing without preliminary rehydration. Mean significantly related to site cancers, but unrelated Dukes' staging. Geometric levels 9.3 ml/day cecum ascending colon, 1.5 trans-verse descending 1.9 sigmoid 1.8 rectum. Rehydration increased independently storage delay, almost doubling at commonly encountered left side colon. Relating results over 3 days, falsenegative rate 31% rehydration, falling 9% With adenomas, positivity closely lesion size. The findings support validity 3-day occult as method large provided employed has high blood. Further information needed specificity rehydrated subjects following diets differing content. degree which rehydration lowers false-negative indicates that this modification slide development should be evaluated population programs.
