摘要: In the United States, direct losses from natural hazards are on rise with hurricanes, flooding, and severe storms contributing about three quarters of total damages. While have been stable over past fifty years, hurricane flood tripled. Per capita also increasing showing that impacts outpace population growth high per occurring largely in Southeast Midwest. If loss escalation two decades continues into future, then $300 to $400 billion within a single decade possible. order reverse this trend, sustainable development, vulnerability reduction, hazard mitigation must become priorities current reduction efforts need be evaluated re-assessed terms their effectiveness. These conclusions drawn analysis spatial temporal trends using SHELDUSTM data 1960 through 2009. Loss adjusted for inflation, population, wealth capture both losses. The compared disaster-related federal government private insurance expenditures.
