摘要: The mechanisms underlying the emergence of orientation selectivity in visual cortex have been, and continue to be, subjects intense scrutiny. Orientation reflects a dramatic change representation world: Whereas afferent thalamic neurons are generally insensitive, primary (V1) extremely sensitive stimulus orientation. This profound receptive field structure along pathway has positioned V1 as model system for studying circuitry that underlies neural computations across neocortex. neocortex is characterized anatomically by relative uniformity its despite role processing distinct signals from region region. A combination physiological, anatomical, theoretical studies shed some light on components necessary generating V1. targeted effort led critical insights, well controversies, concerning how circuits perform computations.
