Word Order Change in Icelandic: From OV to VO

摘要: While Modern Icelandic exhibits a virtually uniform VO order in the VP, Old(er) had both and OV order, as well ‘mixed’ word patterns. In this volume, author examines various VP-word patterns from descriptive statistical point of view provides synchronic diachronic analysis VP-syntax terms generative grammar. Her account makes use number independently motivated ideas, notably remnant-movement kinds predicative phrase, long movement associated with “restructuring” phenomena, to provide an orders and, correspondingly, proposal which aspect syntax must have changed when became norm: essential change is loss VP-extraction VP.
