摘要: Bibliometric techniques and social network analysis are used to define the patterns of international medical research in Latin America Caribbean based on information available Scopus database. The objective was ascertain countries' capacity establish intra- extraregional scientific collaboration. results show that increased output citations have heightened region's presence participation arena. These findings may be partly influenced by inclusion new journals database regional initiatives enhanced collaboration knowledge transfer science. overall rise partnering rates is slightly greater than extraregionally. possible effect geographic, idiomatic, cultural proximity likewise identified. “scientific dependence” small or developing countries would explain their high impact. evidence shows most productive draw from generated domestically neighbors, which why impact so highly concentrated regions with greatest output. need incentivize intraregional relationships must stressed, although should also supported. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
