摘要: 1. Fisheries bycatch affects many species of marine mammals, seabirds, turtles and other animals. 2. New Zealand's endemic Hector's dolphins overlap with gillnet trawl fisheries throughout their geographic range. The is listed as Endangered by the IUCN. In addition, North Island subspecies has been Critically Endangered. 3. Estimates catch rates in commercial gillnets from an observer programme (there are no quantitative estimates amateur gillnetters or fisheries) were used a simple population viability analysis to predict impact this fishery under three scenarios: Option (A) status-quo management, (B) new regulations announced Minister Fisheries 2008 (C) total protection. 4. Uncertainty size growth rate, number caught model inputs explicitly included analysis. Sensitivity analyses carried out examine effect variation rate extent which fishing effort removed protected areas but displaced unprotected areas. 5. These methods applicable situations animals populations, whether deliberately (e.g. fishing) not bycatch). 6. The current dolphin clearly depleted, at estimated 27% 1970 population. Population projections 2050 Options A B that likely continue declining. case driven mainly continuing due much weaker protection measures on South west coast. 7. Without mortality (Option C) all populations projected increase, approximately doubling reaching half its just 40 years. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
