摘要: This essay offers a reading of President Bill Clinton's address on August 28, 1998 in which he commemorates the 35th anniversary March Washington. Specifically, 28th reveals how presidency has become hermeneutic site for formation collective memory and political nostalgia. analysis discusses uses nostalgia purposes image (re)construction as evidenced by exploitation civil rights movement to explain excuse his personal failings relationship with Monica Lewinsky. We also present divergent version rhetoric, giving specific attention particular use this works articulate confront many powerful dichotomies (masculine/feminine; war/peace; black/white; private/public) that define presidency, public persona, larger culture postmodern America.
