摘要: This study was designed to determine whether Double-crested cormorants (Phalacrocorax auritus) were having an impact on the Santee lakes fishery for Striped bass (Morone saxatilis). I surveyed lakes’ population in summer of 2007 and winter 2008 levels 76 birds necropsied order foraging preferences. Summer populations estimated at 203 6000. Clupeids (primarily Gizzard, Threadfin, American shads) made up bulk diet both seasons with overall percentage 86.19%. No any size or species found stomachs collected. Though this most likely indicates there is no direct by fishery; however indirect effects are more difficult quantify data required before conclusions can be drawn about from interspecific competition. The do share a prey base bass, further examination energetic needs as well estimates forage fish necessary. Bomb calorimetry yielded densities primary target daily consumption approximately 8 fish/day. Management recommendations consist continued monitoring roost harassment if local stakeholders continue take issue birds’ presence.
