摘要: Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) are multi-functional cytokines, which belong to the transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) family. In some cancer tissues, aberrant expression of various BMP signal components has been detected. Here, we describe divergent roles BMPs during progression cancer. exhibit effects on both cells and tumor microenvironments. inhibit proliferation cells, with exceptions. also induce differentiation certain stem attenuate their aggressiveness. parallel, play a critical role in regulation angiogenesis metastasis cells. Some mouse xenograft models have revealed that metastases prevented by inhibition signaling. Together, these findings imply function as suppressors promoters tumors context dependent manner. The bi-directional characteristics similar those TGF-β, was previously described molecular 'Jekyll Hyde.'
