摘要: This and two companion papers (Geography the Anthropocene II: Current Contributions The Geography III: Future Directions) consider relevance of '˜the Anthropocene'™ to present future research in Geography. Along with concept '˜planetary boundaries'™, idea that humanity has entered a new geological epoch its own making is currently attracting considerable attention -“ both within beyond world Earth surface science from whence notions originate. paper summarises origins evolution scientific discourse since was first proposed 2000. It ends by outlining potential planetary boundaries ideas because concepts have only recently received serious discipline. next paper, following on this, then reviews these early geographical interpretations buzzwords. subsequent looks ahead options should terms really begin catch-on outside If they become societal keywords, geographers be participants in, rather than mere observers of, unfolding discussion. As we will discover, some are well-placed shape practice, but there for many others join fray.
