摘要: Risk factors for osteoporosis may vary according to different populations. We aimed investigate the relationship between risk of and bone health indices determined via calcaneal quantitative ultrasound (QUS) in a group Malaysian women aged 50 years or above. A cross-sectional study was performed on 344 recruited from tertiary medical centre Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. They answered self-administered questionnaire their social-demographic details, history, lifestyle, physical activity status. Their height measured using stadiometer, body composition estimated bioelectrical impedance device. status water-based QUS device that generated three indices, namely speed sound (SOS), broadband attenuation (BUA), stiffness index (SI). T-score computed SI values reference database mainland Chinese population. Women with more lifetime pregnancies, who were underweight not drinking coffee had significantly lower BUA. Stepwise multiple linear regression showed SOS predicted by age alone, BUA since menopause, mass (BMI), number menopause percentage fat. As conclusion, suboptimal middle-aged elderly as indicated is associated old age, being underweight, having high fat percentage, pregnancies. several should be monitored closely protect bones against accelerated loss.
