摘要: This article analyzes the redevelopment of Gujari Bazaar -a traditional weekly market in Ahmedabad, India - by city’s most ambitious development initiative, Sabarmati Riverfront Development Project. As neo-liberal efforts to “reclaim” (cf. Smith 1990; Chatterjee 2004) urban centers many cities global south continue, activities such as these and spaces they occupy come under increasing threat. Moreover, sites cultural heritage historical value face interesting tensions modernize move either displace them, order make way for fitting interests finance capital, or preserve them tourist attractions, sometimes contorting an envisaged desire.
