摘要: This report deals with progress which has been made in recent years (1990-1996 and part of 1997) the area systematics evolution algae (excluding cyanobacteria). More than 3000 publications referring to algal appeared this period, but less 300 can be cited here. Special reference is given phylogenetic relationships within different groups taxonomic implications, whereas results studies on endocytobioses major lineages are treated only very briefly. Readers interested more detailed information latter areas referred a by M. Melkonian (Prog. Bot. 57:281-311). As other fields biology, molecular also had great impact past (for methods used, see Melkonian’s report). Together new obtained from approaches (e.g., investigations ultrastructure, life history studies, cladistic character analysis, etc.), resulted many unexpected insights into taxa at all levels. All these tools powerful each separately generate course evolutionary investigations, even when combined. Recognitions several higher rank have achieved classes Pelagophyceae Trebouxiophyceae) between various clarified some degree. However, findings cause problems, especially where morphological convergence not closely related obviously occurs coccoid green algae). Phylogenetic classification should certainly reflect history, i.e., it requires recognition monophyletic groups. To achieve will need considerable effort nomenclatural point view, long term most useful. Before undertaking such task, however, necessary further explore complementarity phylogeny morphology. The revolution renaissance well underway, promise for future directions manifest.
