摘要: DISTINCTIVE vocalisations, audible over long distances, have been reported among many forest primate species, ranging from prosimians to apes1–5. Such loud calls often hypothesised mediate territorial or other forms of spacing between conspecific groups, and indeed audibility distances sufficient serve in intergroup communication is one their defining characteristics. Nevertheless, evidence support such hypotheses primarily indirect (but see ref. 1), investigation the responses animals these generally lacking.
