摘要: Adhesion between cells is essential to the evolution of multicellularity. Indeed, morphogenesis in animals requires firm but flexible intercellular adhesions that are mediated by subcellular structures like adherens junction (AJ). A key component AJs classical cadherins, a group transmembrane proteins maintain dynamic cell–cell associations many animal species. An evolutionary reconstruction cadherin structure and function provides comprehensive framework with which appreciate diversity morphogenetic mechanisms animals.
