The pros and cons of long distance commuting: Comments from South Australian mining and resource workers

摘要: Long Distance Commuting (LDC), also referred to as fly-in-fly-out (FIFO), involves a cycle of working for extended periods away from the family home. The experiences LDC workers were examined through study 104 minerals and resources industry partners in South Australia. SA comment that is satisfying has positive personal, lifestyle, career benefits. Stressors include shift work, long rosters, separation friends family, missing events, isolation, fatigue. Feelings anxiety or reports depression which commonly feature other literature not this study. Short high standard on-site services amenities coupled with training opportunities, local management peer support, friendly organisational culture regular communication are key factors contributing sustainability workforce model.
