Mucin production in medullary carcinoma of the thyroid.

摘要: Mucin production in medullary carcinoma of the thyroid is rarely mentioned literature. We studied 36 cases carcinoma; 32 lesions were sporadic and four genetic variants. In 15 (42%), mucin was demonstrated by histochemical means. six (17%), only extracellular; three (8%), it mostly extracellular, but with foci intracellular deposits; equally extracellular intracellular. secretion could be both primary tumor nodal metastases. No consistent correlation between histologic pattern, staining properties cells, or occurrence tumor. more frequently identified carcinomas (42%) than other (9.1%) gland. As can approximately half carcinomas, this lesion should considered a possible source for cervical node containing positive cells.
