Demethylation in erythrocytes: a reaction involving hemoglobin.

摘要: A reaction is described in erythrocytes of rat and man whereby O-methylated metabolites the catecholamines are demethylated to corresponding catechols. The was studied by incubating aliquots erythrocyte lysates with radiolabeled compounds isolating catechol product alumina adsorption chromatography. demethylating activity located cytosol erythrocytes. Evidence strong that oxyhemoglobin responsible for reaction: demethylase inseparable from several chromatographic separations. In addition, although commercially available hemoglobins were inactive reactions, after their conversion purification, they did effect demethylation. Methemoglobin not demethylate guaiacols fact inhibited demethylation oxyhemoglobin. addition reduced pyridine nucleotides methyl acceptor tetrahydrofolic acid.
