Dense Brushes of Tilted Metallic Nanorods Grown onto Stretchable Substrates for Optical Strain Sensing

摘要: This study aims to investigate the potential of small densely packed tilted Au nanorods grown on a flexible substrate by physical vapor deposition for strain sensing. By exciting rods with linearly polarized white light that is perpendicularly impinging onto sample substrate, interesting plasmonic properties emerge. Electron microscopy characterization shows are at shallow angle relative as expected glancing conditions. Due their nonorthogonal orientation, specific coupled multirod plasmon modes detected both longitudinal and transverse illumination under normal substrate. In second step, we have performed in situ mechanical tests showed higher sensitivity applied E-field directions, which more strongly affected changes inter-rod gaps than illumination.
