摘要: SCOTT1 has described experiments with equi-sized steel balls of 0.3175 cm. diameter in loose and dense random stable packings, having volume packing densities 0.60(1) 0.63(7), corrected for wall top–bottom effects. The specific gravity is high, this may have had an influence on the arrangement spheres, as impact falling or rolling will been rather high. Some done nylon spheres comparable diameter, 0.287 ± 0.002 cm., a 1.15(6) 0.02. These were loan from Prof. H. Kramers Delft.
