摘要: When massive economic restructuring forced William H. Whyte Jr's (1956) ‘organization man’ to walk permanently out of the front doors corporation, many assumptions a traditional career path followed shortly behind. In wake his departure, people were left pondering how they would survive without job for life, corporate ‘road map’ guide their destiny and firm's hierarchy define status or place in society. Without employers’ orderly structures, external guides action, linear paths, however, just what is future career? ‘the career’ devolves level individual does free agency prevail form ‘career anarchy’ result? Is there anything that can be concluded about careers if everyone seems doing own thing? We argue here answer an emphatic ‘yes’. The new environment suggests shift from pre-ordained development perpetually changing paths possibilities. As result ‘bounded’ – prescribed by relatively stable organisational occupational structures ‘boundaryless’ where uncertainty flexibility are order day increasingly common. concept boundaryless broadly based, intended reflect emergent pace change. It not characterise any single form, but rather ‘a range possible forms defy employment assumptions’ (Arthur & Rousseau, 1996, p. 6). myriad interactions over lifetime work experiences appear overwhelming. A complex web relationships emerges numerous exchanges among individuals, teams, employers. interplay may seem downright chaotic.
