Opportunity not responsibility: Engaging industrial design students in design for sustainability

摘要: This paper argues that to encourage future design practitioners for sustainability (DfS), new vocational opportunities need be explored within education enable designers operate beyond traditional product design. Educating such vocations presents DfS as an opportunity, opposed a moral responsibility. Three are proposed from the results of four-year action research study: first, use industrial designers' creativity skills conceptualise opportunities; second, in developing entrepreneurial business ventures would profitable; third, consultant assist businesses, communities or individuals make transition more sustainable society. Students' reflections upon presented challenges present curriculum, they suggest changes skill set may required.
