摘要: In the UK, as elsewhere in Europe, earlier “technocratic” approaches to radioactive waste management (RWM) have been abandoned. Policy-makers recognized that for any RWM program succeed, sustained engagement with stakeholders and public is necessary, geological disposal facility must be constructed operated willing support of community which hosts it. This has opened up policy-making implementation a wider range (sometimes contested) expert inputs, ranging across natural social sciences, engineering, ethics. Geoscientists other technical specialists found themselves drawn into debates about how various types expertise should prioritized, integrated diverse stakeholder perspectives. Successful an will depend on effectively communicating geoscientific concepts information nongeologists. Adherence ethical professional standards vital building sustaining trust geoscientists involved, confidence judgment they provide.
