摘要: Fast-growing shrub willow is a proven bioenergy crop in Europe and being adopted commercially regions of North America. Breeding selection willows adapted for fi eld conditions America have been conducted at SUNY’s College Environmental Science Forestry since 1998. From more than 2,000 individuals produced through breeding 1998 1999, number selected improved biomass yield two trials with small, replicated plots. A comparison rstand second-rotation results from these will be presented, demonstrating that the varieties exceeded best current production variety, ‘SV1’. Th e highest mean small plots was 40 percent higher ‘SV1’, which typically yields 4 to 5 dry tons ac yr. high-yielding scaled-up planted established using production-style spacing on several sites United States, Canada, Northern Ireland evaluate potential across range environmental conditions. To encourage commercial deployment, seven were patented licensed nursery scale-up sale planting stock. Current future work focused characterizing genetic basis diff erences composition among diverse varieties. Initial characterization genes encoding key enzymes lignin, cellulose, hemicellulose biosynthesis presented.
