摘要: The New York State black bear (Ursus americanus) population/ approximately 4/000 animals (Clarke 1977)/ causes damage to apiaries in the Catskill/ Adirondack/ and Southern Tier regions of state. During 1987/ 1988/ 1989, USDA Animal Damage Control (ADC) administered a program control apiaries. activities were carried out pursuant Cooperative Agreement between ADC Department Agriculture Markets/ supported by matching FederalState contributions. Program objectives beekeeper education aimed at preventing for construction demonstration temporary electric fences. an 8-wire/ low-tension fence 12.5 gauge wire used conjunction with high-voltage/ lowimpedence Zealand energizer was constructed around apiary Clinton County. In two fences built Steuben County: lowtension 14 stainless steel braided cable 110 volt connected nearby utility pole/ 3-strand polytape solar-charged 6-volt energizer. early 1989/ 42-inch high polywire mesh fence/ solar energizer/ installed another County site. is considered most desirable because effectiveness/ relative low cost/ portability/ ease installation/ compatability polar 1/ USDA-APHIS-ADC, P.O.
