摘要: Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the kinematics of deep inelastic scattering (DIS) and defines relevant structure functions for both unpolarized polarized cases. It also provides physical interpretation in terms quark parton distributions. A very high-energy proton is not a simple three-quark object like at rest, but much more complex, composed actually valence quarks, gluons, quark-antiquark pairs that carry small fraction its momentum. There exist number sum rules functions, some which are rigorous results others rely or less on well-justified assumptions. The finally an overview phenomenological work DIS.
