Economic impact of Mississippi and Alabama Gulf Coast tourism on the regional economy

摘要: Abstract The coastal economy is highly sensitive to natural and human disasters changes in economic conditions. This study analyzes the local regional impacts of Mississippi Alabama Gulf Coast visitor spending 2013, aiming provide guidance on future planning management. IMPLAN input-output models were constructed which capture connections among region two states' economies. Economic calculated with software. An internet survey tourists was conducted by Survey Sampling International (SSI) a nationally representative population. Overall, 2891 individuals responded, for response rate 26.2%. Based data, it estimated that approximately 16.4 million travelers visited 2013 average per $730.11. In total, yielded $17.6 billion sales revenue, $9.4 value added, $5.9 labor income, about 200,000 full part-time jobs five counties. Comparatively, leakage out small. Coastal tourism also contributed inland areas states. But spillover effect feedback effects counties not large. analysis examined how industry impacted other working waterfront industries as well rest economy. Findings help decision makers look beyond direct generated tourist contribute sustainable community
