摘要: Spider orb webs are multifunctional structures, the main function of which is to dissipate kinetic energy impacting prey, while minimizing structural damage. There no single explanation for their remarkable strength and ductility. However, it clear that topology decisive in performance upon impact, arrangement different silk threads web must also exert an effect. The aim this study show how a slight variation geometry markedly affects prey-capture ability spider webs. focused on secondary frame, thread interposed between radial primary frame strands, importance has not been examined until now. simulation impact using lengths clarifies its role, proven be decisive. Furthermore, explains why moderate length, as commonly encountered, enable capture prey with higher without marked increase volume used.
