摘要: AbstractThe pulmonary effects and fibrogenic potential of intratracheally instilled silicon compounds were evaluated at 3, 7, 74, 28 days post instillation. Evaluations consisted examination lavaged cell populations, as well biochemical histologic techniques. Alpha-quartz (SiO2), a known material, caused significant toxicity, manifested by edema, acute chronic inflammation, granuloma formation, fibrosis. An the populations recovered from lungs rats exposed to quartz revealed an increase in polymorpho-nuclear leukocytes macrophages, decrease macrophage viability, when compared saline-instilled controls. In addition, these had increased hydroxy-proline content.
